Across South Asian art, Makara appears as a composite aquatic creature. In architectural ornament it inhabits arches, thresholds, waterspouts, and carved frames. Sri Lankan artists gave it a powerful life in stone and decorated form.
Never only one creature.
Its body changes across time and place, combining animal and aquatic features.

On arches and architectural frames, Makara lives at the passage between outside and within.

We translated the Makara into black relief, sea movement, and gold light. It does not replace the dog. It surrounds the dog, holds the world together, and turns the package into a contemporary threshold.
